Flooring Tips
Questions to Ask Your Installer and Other Tips
The following are questions we suggest you ask when choosing your installer to make the installation of your flooring go as smoothly as possible:
- What is your price per yard to install?
- Do you charge extra to take up carpet or flooring and/or haul it off?
- Does your price include supplies?
- Do you move furniture and/or how much do you charge?
- What am I responsible for unhooking and moving?
- Do you guarantee your work?
- Do you charge for measuring?
The following are tips consumers should follow when dealing with carpet installers. While we only hand out cards of people we feel are professional and will do a good job for you, the consumer is still contracting independently with the installer and thus, should follow some basic guidelines:
- If at all possible, have the same installer that is putting your flooring in measure your rooms before you purchase (unless you measured it yourself, in which case we will make every attempt to figure your carpet accurately);
- Get all costs up front. Please ask the above questions if applicable. If possible, walk through the job with the installer before he starts;
- Installers will charge extra for stairs and certain type of carpet such as berber. Be sure to ask them about those charges;
- If your room has seams discuss where you would like them with your installer before he starts;
- If feasible, be present when your installation takes place. This way the installer has an immediate point of contact if a problem is encountered;
- Do not pay the installer until you have inspected the job and it meets with your satisfaction;
- If you have a problem with the installation within the scope of the timeframe of the installers work warrantee (usually one year), please contact the installer first before you contact us. If you cannot reach them, we will do everything we can to try and assist you in communicating with them.
