History

Jabara's Carpet Outlet, Inc. has been a family owned flooring and home imporvement company based in Wichita, Kansas for 40 years. George Jabara Sr., oldest of five sons and father of five sons, opened Jabara’s Damaged Freight in 1970. He was with Razook grocery before he and auctioneer Bud Palmer bought the stock of a western-wear store and had a close out sale. Pleased with the results, they found they could pick up distressed goods readily from freight warehouses, bankruptcies, liquidations and auctions. Their odds and ends sold well -- if the price was right. The second hand or discount business model had just started to catch on in Wichita, and Jabara's Damaged Freight specialized in selling almost anything they could as long as they could sell it for a low price. For 15 years Jabara's Damaged Freight offered unique home improvement items at extremely low prices to the Wichita community.  After a while, George's sons Tom, who began working for his dad in 1970 and Bill, who came on board after George Sr.'s passing in 1978, found that flooring was selling better than a lot of the other items they were handling.

In 1985, Jabara's Carpet Outlet, “the biggest carpet outlet in town” was opened because our customers at Jabara’s Damaged Freight loved the carpet prices and quality, but wanted more choices. So, Jabara's expanded and opened a new store just for flooring. Jabara's Carpet Outlet has expanded 5 more times since 1985 and now covers an entire square block.

In 1995, Jabara's Carpet Outlet opened Jabara's Carpet Galerie, a special order showroom.  Now, our customers could choose from either the instock selection in our carpet outlet, or  from over 25,000 choices of flooring products in the new special order showroom.

Jabara's Carpet Outlet, Jabara's Carpet Galerie, and Jabara's Damaged Freight provide all of Kansas with the most choices, best service, and lowest prices of first quality flooring and home improvement products.
